He was the head of the Mersin branch of the DTP (Party for a Democratic Society) at the time of the events giving rise to the present application.
The applications concern the convictions of the applicant for membership of the PKK, an illegal armed organisation, under Articles 220 § 6 and 314 of the Criminal Code and for disseminating propaganda in favour of the PKK under section 7 § 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act on account of his participation in a demonstration protesting the death of a member of the PKK in prison.
During the demonstration, the applicant also made speech allegedly praising the PKK.
